Turns out the Dutch wanted to increase exports to increase revenue and earnings in the Dutch East Indies, Indonesia these days. Local land owners during that time would not allow coffee farmers to pick coffee for their own enjoyment. To avoid hard punishments, farmers noticed and started picking coffee beans from the dropping of civets. They cleaned and processed these beans and discovered that Civet Coffee had a better taste than any coffee they where drinking before. Eventually the Dutch landlords noticed what the farmers where doing and created an export entirely consisting of Civet Coffee. The world just couldn't get enough and demand for this type of coffee went through the roof. These days civet coffee is still in high demand. However, not every civet bean is of high quality.
